This was a special trip. the jokes! The laughter! we paddled in sun, wind, and pouring rain. these GALS experienced almost everything the north maine woods has to offer and emerged a strong, tight-KNIT group WITH A HEALTHY BAG OF INSIDE JOKES… AND SONGS! i’m so proud of them, and of my lovely pal maeve for helping us all along :)

we didn’t see a moose until the last hour of the trip. but boy oh boy, it was a beautiful moose sighting — shrouded in the early morning mist, just downriver. i THINK It took us so long to see one because of our group’s constant giggling! having a good time on the river isn’t exactly the best strategy for wildlife sightings. but i’d choose the laughter any day.

we rocked chase rapids, leaving those class II rips in the dust! we got up early and beat the wind almost every time. emily became the frog snatcher, AND WHEN COLLEEN DISCOVERED A FROG IN HER TENT LATE ONE KNOW (I KNOW!!) SHE CAME TO THE RESCUE IN RECORD TIME. THE GIGGLES THAT NIGHT WERE OFF THE CHARTS.

IT THUNDERED ONE DAY, BUT WE DRANK COCOA UNDER THE TARP AND ADJUSTED OUR CAMPSITE PLANS ACCORDINGLY. THESE GALS WERE STRONG, EAGER, AND HELPFUL, EVEN WHEN THEY GOT A BIT WET. AINSLEY EVEN MADE THE FIRE A FEW TIMES! LOOKING BACK I’M GRATEFUL FOR THEIR HELP, THEIR HIGH SPIRITS, AND THEIR HUMOR. AND ALSO THE WISDOM EACH OF THEM BROUGHT FROM HER OWN LIFE! HAVING WOMEN IN ALL DIFFERENT STAGES OF LIFE COME TOGETHER AND GET TO KNOW EACH OTHER HAS BEEN A HUGE JOY OF THESE TRIPS. I CAN’T WAIT FOR MORE.
